Fiano is the best white variety grown in the south of Italy and Guido Marsella is the best producer we have yet found making it. Guido has 11 hectares of vineyards in the DOCG of Avellino located at 560 metres elevation in the shadow of the Montevergine mountain. The vineyard was planted in 1990 so the vines have reached full maturity and his yields are very low.
The wine is fermented in stainless steel and spends 12 months on its fine lees, gaining richness, mouthfeel and complexity. The wine itself is rich, but taut with vibrant minerality combined with flavours of lemongrass, ripe white peaches, delicate fresh herbs with a long persistent finish. Although we haven't yet tasted a really old bottle of Guido's wines, we have it on good authority that his wines will age for a decade. This is truy one of the south's superstar white wines
